Braun è volato con Bieber ad Atlanta, in Georgia, per consultarsi con il cantante Usher; in seguito Bieber ha firmato un contratto con la casa discografica Island, dove ha iniziato la sua carriera professionale.
Il 17 novembre 2009 è stato pubblicato il suo primo disco, My World, mentre erano state pubblicate precedentemente le canzoni One Time, One Less Lonely Girl, Love Me e Favourite Girl, quattro singoli digitali che sono entrati tra le prime quindici posizioni della classifica canadese dei singoli e tra le prime quaranta di quella statunitense. È il solo artista nella storia del Billboard ad annoverare quattro singoli tratti dall'album d'esordio My World 2.0, uscito nel 2010, nella Top 40 delle Hot 100 prima dell'uscita dell'album stesso.
